At 12 noon, Paul Braddock from the British Council will speak on "Motivating activities with images to develop higher level thinking skills". Most of us are aware that using still or moving images in our language teaching can open up a world of communicative possibilities. From analysing and exploring language, expanding into the creation of audio, film and text, this workshop will look at a number of creative, enjoyable and engaging activities which can be used in language classroom with images - ranging from 5-minute fillers to full class activities. Paul Braddock currently manages the British Council's TeachingEnglish website and has been involved in English language teaching and teacher training for over twelve years. He has worked in several countries, including Japan, Hungary, Portugal and the UK.

At 1:30 pm, Ben Goldstein from The New School’s MATESOL programme (New York), will speak on the problem of personalisation. As a teacher, trainer and materials writer he will explain how the personalisation of teaching is changing the way in which a language is taught. In the old days, personalisation meant simply making some space for the lives of a teacher's learners. The term is now used, however, in other contexts and has taken on a different significance. This talk will attempt to reassess the role of personalisation in the teaching profession.

Ben Goldstein has taught English for over twenty years and currently works on The New School’s MATESOL program (New York). He is lead author of the adult coursebook series New Framework and The Big Picture (Richmond).
