Hugo Pibernat, Data Scientist for Candy Crush, new UAB adjunct lecturer

The Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising has hired a new adjunct lecturer for the next semester. His name is Hugo Pibernat and he is data scientist at "King Digital Entertainment". Pibernat is a computer engineer with a broad experience in the world of data analytics.

Hugo Pibernat will begin to give lectures as adjunct lecturer in the second semester of this academic year, and will be lecturing on subjects related to multimedia contents.

Pibernat, born in 1984, holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). He has worked with USAID, the lead US Government agency that aims to end extreme global poverty. He is currently working as a data scientist at the company King Digital Entertainment.

King Digital Entertainment is the most popular interactive online entertainment company in the world. Among its top products are the games Saga Crush, Pet Rescue Saga, Saga Heroes Farm, Papa Pear Saga and Bubble Witch Saga. Candy Crush has over 500 million users and 40% of them have at least once made a micro payment.

This past Tuesday, 25 November, Pibernat offered a master class at the conference hall of the Faculty of Communications Studies in which he explained his professional experience at King Digital Entertainment. The class, entitled "A Dream about a Product" focused on the process of creation of video games and other products, with special emphasis on the relevance of the added value offered by the data they provide.

With this new incorporation, the Department of Audiovisual Communication aims to offer its students the knowledge and experience of one of the best professionals in the field of audiovisuals and new formats. This field, in which Pibernat is an expert, is one of the fields in which future graduates in Audiovisual Communication have a lot of opportunities to enter professionally.
