Borja de Riquer is awarded for his biography of Francesc Cambó

Borja de Riquer, professor in the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at the UAB, was awarded the 38th Ferran Soldevila Prize for biography, memory and historical studies for Francesc Cambó. L'últim retrat (Edicions 62). He received the distinction in a ceremony which took place yesterday in the University of Barcelona's historic building and which was attended by UAB Vice Rector for Communication and Culture Virginia Luzón.

De Riquer has been a lecturer at the UAB since 1969 and Professor of Contemporary History since 1988. He has been director of the Department of History, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and member of the UAB Senate. He has directed the History of Parliamentarism Group and the Bibliographical Documentation Service for the History of Catalonia at the UAB. In 1991 he received the University's medal of honour. He has also given courses and seminars at numerous academic institutions in Europe and Latin America.

He is a specialist in 20th-century history, particularly in political Catalanism and Francoism, and in the figure of Francesc Cambó. He has published more than two hundred works, including books, contributions to collective works and articles in specialised journals, and was co-director of the project Diccionario biográfico de los parlamentarios españoles, 1810-2000, financed by the Spanish Parliament. Among other institutional responsibilities, he has been chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Memorial Democràtic and a member of the two commissions of experts appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the Government of Catalonia to resolve the dispute over the Catalan documentation deposited in the Salamanca Archive. In 2002 he received the distinction of recognised researcher from the Government of Catalonia and in 2018 he was appointed president of the Royal Academy of Fine Letters of Barcelona.
