Edward Bernal and Marc Castilla won the final of the local phase of the University Debate League. For two days, February 27th and 28th, eight teams of UAB students debated the question "Is the West responsible for the emergence of the Islamic State?".

Edward Bernal and Marc Castilla won the final of the local phase of the University Debate League 2018. The days of the university debate began on February 27^th and ended on the 28th with the great final that took place at 3:00 p.m. at the Theaterof the UAB. The UAB Debate League aims to promote the use of the word among students, through the dialectical confrontation between various teams, which must defend a position for or against a current issue.

Last year the question to be debated was «Is it necessary for the public power to control the media?». The students Anna Vilà and Edward Bernal won, and they represented the UAB before the rest of the universities. In this edition, the participating students confronted the question: "Is the West responsible for the emergence of the Islamic State?". The jury was made up of professors from different disciplines and studies at the UAB.

The goal of the Debate League is for students to improve their communication skills when speaking in public and to express themselves correctly before an audience, skills increasingly important for university students. Participating in this activity is a way to enhance oratory skills. Students who participate are divided into teams, of a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 5, and must defend a position for or against the topic being debated.

As winners, the team of Edward Bernal and Marc Castilla will represent the UAB in the University Debate League, organized by the Catalan Network of Universities, at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche from April 16th to 20th, 2018.

High School Debate League 2018

Prior to the University Debate League, the local days of the High School Debate League took place at the UAB, which began on February 21st and ended on Friday the 23rd. The winner team was the Can Roca Institute, which will represent the UAB in the final phase at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche from 11th to 13th April 2018.
