The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology organised on 9 and 23 February the Docu-seminar “Conflicts and alternatives in the agrochemical life cycle” with the aim of reflecting on tensions arising around agrochemicals, in particular pesticides and herbicides, through their life cycle, from their production to their use. The screening of several documentaries was followed by a discussion between the audience, the documentary filmmakers and ICTA-UAB researchers on the conflicts and alternatives that emerge from these conflicts.  The sessions took place at ICTA-UAB (room Z/023) from 13.30 to 15 h.

On the first day, two short documentaries by filmmaker Arturo Hortas were screened: the documentary "Discovering Lindane- el legado del HCH" and the short film "Las fronteras del glifosato", that was presented for the first time.

The first film, that lasts 31 minutes, is about the problem of pollution caused by lindane in Sabiñánigo (Aragonese Pyrenees) affecting the Gállego river basin. The second one, that lasts 13 minutes, is about the current situation of the Plan Colombia and glyphosate spraying along the Colombian border with Ecuador.

On Tuesday 23 February, the documentary "Luz Bella, desde la eco-resistencia" from the filmmaker and ICTA-UAB researcher Almudena García Sastre was shown. The film reflects the rural reality and the land disputes in Paraguay related to the advance of soybean farming, told by its protagonists.

The Docu-seminar was organised within the framework of the research and dissemination activities of the projects LEGATO, STACCATO, and is part of the initiatives of the Laboratorio Multimedia de Conflictos Ambientales (LAMCA).
