The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) is a leading interdisciplinary research institute at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona that promotes academic research and postgraduate education in cross-cutting environmental sciences. The institute brings together around 190 researchers and technical staff from diverse disciplines spanning the natural sciences, social sciences, and engineering fields.

Since its creation in 2003, ICTA-UAB has become an international reference in sustainability science and environmental research. The institute fosters integrative approaches that bridge science, policy, and practice in order to better understand complex environmental challenges and contribute to just and sustainable futures. A distinctive feature of ICTA-UAB is its strong commitment to transdisciplinary collaboration and to advancing transformative pathways towards sustainability.

Since October 2014, ICTA-UAB has been housed in an emblematic LEED GOLD-certified building on the UAB campus, recognized for its high energy efficiency and sustainable design. Designed to embody the institute’s sustainability values, the building promotes open, collaborative workspaces and showcases innovative environmental technologies.
