As part of the ARLE/IFTE 2026 Conference, the UAB Institute for Education Studies organises Escriure, llegir i pensar: claus per transformar l’aula de llengua avui [Writing, Reading and Thinking: keys to transforming today's language classrooms]. 

The activity will take place on 25 June at the UAB Faculty of Arts and Humanities and aims to reflect on language teaching. In this way, a space for exchange between international research and educational practice is created, academic debate is brought closer to the reality of classrooms, and teacher training is promoted through a critical and updated perspective. To attend, please complete the free prior registration through the ICE website. 

The programme will begin at 8:55 a.m. with a presentation of the conference by Xavier Fontich and Dolors Masats, lecturers in Language and Literature Teaching at the UAB. At 9 :00 a.m. a conference entitled "Escriure per comunicar, comunicar aprenent" [Writing to Communicate, Communicating to Understand] will be given by Montserrat Castelló, professor of the Faculty of Psychology, Education and Sports of the Ramon Llull University, who will talk on the role of writing to help acquire knowledge and critical thinking.

Then, at 10:00 a.m., the session "Ensenyar a llegir i escriure amb un lloritu a l’aula" [Teaching to Read and Write with a Parrot in the Classroom] will be held, given by Daniel Cassany, lecturer in Discourse Analysis at the Pompeu Fabra University, who will address the impact of artificial intelligence on writing and reading practices. At 11:30 a.m., there will be a round table on "El luxe de pensar les llengües: divulgació, compromís i ciutadania" [The Luxury of Thinking about Languages: dissemination, commitment and citizenship]. Participating will be Luci Nussbaum, Artur Noguerol, Mila Segarra and Amparo Tuson, specialists in language and literature teaching who will reflect on the social value of languages ​​and dissemination. Finally, at 12:30 p.m., "The Barcelona of Mercè Rodoreda" literary walk will be offered by Neus Real, lecturer in Language and Literature Teaching at the UAB, who will explore the relationship between urban spaces and the work of Mercè Rodoreda.

The UAB's International Association for Research in L1 Education (ARLE) organises the International Conference onf Language and Literature Education, ARLE/IFTE Barcelona 2026, which will be held from 25 to 27 June. The conference will take place at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities of the UAB, at the Rosa Sensat School in Barcelona, and at the Faculty of Geography of the University of Barcelona. The conference will focus mainly on the teaching of the first language and literature in a changing world: El viatge sense límits: L’ensenyament de la llengua primera i la literatura en un món canviant. The sessions will debate on topics related to the omnipresence of AI in education, access, language, relationships, technology, the narration of histories, diversities, identities and agencies in the research of L1 education in the world. The event will bring together educators from around the world to share celebrations and stories and honour Vygotsky's legacy on the 130th anniversary of his birth. AMong the participants will be Xavier Fontich, president of the ARLE of the UAB; Andy Goodwyn, president of the IFTE, who will present the conference; and Melinda Dooly, professor of language and literature at the UAB.

The UAB's European Documentation Centre (CDE) organises the closing session of the Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Law (MIADD) with the conference IA agèntica a Europa: governança, riscos i bones pràctiques [Agentic AI in Europe: governance, risks and best practices]. The event will take place on 26 June at 3:00 p.m. at the CDE. Speaking at the event will by Alex González, global director IT & digital innovation at Nestlé; Francisco Pérez, assistant to the Spanish Data Protection Agency; and Eduard Blasi, lawyer specialising in digital law and privacy at TechAndLaw Advocats, who will be moderating the session. The speakers will reflect on the impact of autonomous artificial intelligence in the new European regulatory framework. The event will also serve to award diplomas to the new graduates in recognition of the work and effort made throughout the academic year.

The MIADD is a pioneering training initiative that combines the technical foundations of artificial intelligence with the legal and regulatory analysis of emerging technologies. The programme offers a practical and multidisciplinary vision on aspects such as AI governance, data protection, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and European regulatory compliance.

The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the UAB and the University of Barcelona will be hosting the global political ecology conference POLLEN 2026, which will be held from 29 June to 3 July. The sessions will take place at the Hotel Exe Campus (Vila Universitària, UAB campus), in the UAB cinema hall, at the UAB Faculty of Science, at the ICTA-UAB, at the Faculty of Geography of the UB, and at the Barcelona Maritime Museum in Barcelona (Plaça de les Drassanes). The event will bring together more than 1,500 international researchers, activists, social entities and creators to debate energy transitions, data justice, militarised environmental governance, ecofeminism and indigenous knowledge systems. The central axis of POLLEN 2026 are the three plenary sessions that will address fundamental contemporary issues related to the topic, from anti-capitalist resistance to authoritarian capitalism. It will also include 250 round tables, workshops, screenings, games, poster sessions, book presentations and artistic interventions.

The first two plenary sessions, which will take place on 30 June at the UAB Exe Campus Hotel, will focus on global challenges. Farhana Sultana, professor of geography and environment at Syracuse University (New York, USA), will give a conference entitled “Authoritarianism Beyond the Regime: Environmental Publics, Capitalist Accumulation and Structural Persistence”, which will analyse the changes following the 2024 revolution in Bangladesh and feature contributions from other speakers on authoritarian trends in Hungary, Turkey, Latin America and Tanzania. Sara Mingorría, sociology researcher and member of the CSIC at the UAB, will offer the session entitled “When Territories Persist: Infrastructures, Resistance and Collective Futures”, which will address resistance to airport infrastructures and degrowth in the aviation sector, based on the massive protests of the ZeroPort platform in Barcelona. The talk will also feature interventions on territorial struggles in India, the Catalan Pyrenees, Sweden, and the Caribbean.

The Institute of European Studies of the UAB is organising, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law and the EUGLOB Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the UAB, the closing of the Master's Degree in European Integration with the session "Current and Future Challenges of the EU: rule of law, democracy and future direction of European integration". The event will take place on 30 June at 4:00 p.m., in the main hall of the Faculty of Law of the UAB. The session will be led by Viviane Reding, former Vice-President of the European Commission. Reding will reflect on the current and future challenges of the European Union, particularly in relation to the rule of law, democracy and the evolution of the European integration process.
