Professor Joan Baptista Culla passes away

Joan Baptista Culla Clarà, retired professor of the Department of Modern and Early Modern History of the UAB, has left us. The ceremony will take place on 1 December at 11 am, at the Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès. The University extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends and to all those who knew and appreciated him, and shares the sadness felt by his passing.

Culla graduated and received his PhD from the University of Barcelona, and joined the UAB in 1977, where he developed his academic career until 23 May 2023, when he said goodbye to teaching in an event at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in which he gave the lecture "The Palestinian Question at the UN: the role of two superpowers".

He was the author of many monographs on contemporary history and the political party system in Catalonia and Spain, among other subjects, as well as the book of memoirs La història viscuda (Pòrtic). He was a regular contributor to various media channels, such as TVE, TV3 (where he presented the program Segle XX between 1991 and 2013), El País, Ara, Catalunya Ràdio and L'Avenç. He was also a member of the board of theCircle of Economy of Catalonia.

And the Faculty of Communication Studies, where he also taught for years, also dedicated a letter  to him, signed by professor and dean of the faculty, Enric Marín i Otto.
