Laboratory of Palynological Analysis

This laboratory is located in the Department of Biology and specialises in different techniques based on the analysis of pollen and spores as well as their allergens contained in different environments: outdoor and indoor air (aerobiology), honey and other bee products (melissopalynology), soil archaeological sediments  (paleopalynology).

The dedicated facility includes:

  • Pollen and spore traps for outdoor aerobiological sampling (standard methods)
  • Allergen traps for outdoor aerobiological sampling
  • Centrifuges and laboratory equipment for obtaining the pollen and spores sediment
  • Light microscopes for analysis of pollen and samples
  • Palinoteca (Reference collection of identified Pollen and spores samples)
  • Equipment for the immunological analysis of airborne samples
  • Fume hoods
  • Webpage, Instagram and Twitter to disseminate weekly information on risk of allergy to main allergenic pollen and fungal spores in Catalonia and Balearic Islands (https://aerobiologia.cat/pia/es/)
