Would you like to study English, focusing on its acquisition and usage in multilingual settings? Are you keen on exploring its literature and culture across different historical periods and regions, and recognising the role of power, gender, and environmental politics? Are you considering a career in education, publishing, or language technology?
The University Master's Degree in English Studies: Linguistic, Literary and Sociocultural Perspectives is taught wholly in English and provides the necessary theoretical and methodological tools for a comprehensive understanding of various study areas in one of the leading universities in Spain.
This MA programme, designed for graduates with a background in language, literary, and cultural studies in English, focuses on developing advanced English proficiency, including written, oral, and sociocultural skills, with an emphasis on language acquisition and teaching. The programme also provides in-depth knowledge of literature and culture in English, addressing challenges in reception, translation, and adaptation. Additionally, the curriculum uniquely blends linguistic training in multilingual and multicultural contexts with literary and cultural studies, focusing on themes such as war, the body, and the environment and integrating cutting-edge critical approaches such as ecocriticism, trauma, and LGTBIQ+ studies. This interdisciplinary approach merges theory with practical skills, critical thinking, and research methodologies.

Note also that this MA participates in the European Joint Master’s Programme and ERASMUS agreements, offering exceptional academic quality and global opportunities. The UAB joined the Programme a few years ago and has signed agreements with the University of Bamberg and Ca’ Foscari. It is currently negotiating agreements with the University of Graz and Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
