The University Master’s Degree in Art and Design (MURAD) aims to provide students with the skills needed to conduct research in art and design, both in theoretical and conceptual aspects and in practical creation processes.

The MURAD offers an experimental area in which to study, work and exchange experiences so that each student can develop their research with support from the contexts and tasks included in the programme, as well as guidance from lecturers. Thematically, the master’s degree is open to all types of creative contexts covering the areas of Visual Creation, Poject Culture and Aesthetics Applied to research into art and design.

Right at the start of the programme, students will begin to work on their Final Dissertation, which is conducted through individual and group tutorials. The dissertation may focus exclusively on the theory of art and design, or simultaneously on its theory and practice.

The MURAD offers the possibility of continuing on to a PhD programme in Research in Art and Design, as a specialisation within the PhD programme offered by the Department of Philosophy of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Career options

The Master of Research in Art and Design is directed primarily to the practice of teaching and research, giving access to doctorate studies, especially in the fields of art and design. However, the theoretical-practical approach also allows for the application of the acquired knowledge on artistic practices and professional designers activity.
