Knowledge

  • Recognise the biological (anatomy and physiology), methodological, psychological (processes and evolutionary development), linguistic and pedagogical foundations of speech therapy intervention in communication, language, speech, hearing, voice and non-verbal oral functions.
  • Describe disorders of communication, language, speech, hearing, voice, and nonverbal oral functions.
  • Identify the responsibilities linked to the exercise of the professional activity: ethical and legal aspects, the need for referral, cessation and/or interdisciplinary treatment, and the promotion of the social responsibility of the speech therapy professional.
  • Defend, based on evidence-based knowledge and current legislation, the decisions and treatments applied in professional practice.

  • Correctly use the terminology and methodology of speech therapy research.
  • Use the evaluation techniques and tools of the profession.

Competences

  • Assess the techniques and tools of evaluation and diagnosis in Speech Therapy, as well as the procedures of speech therapy intervention.
  • Interpret the results of the evaluation, integrating them into the set of information for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, including the prognosis of evolution.
  • Apply speech therapy treatments based on the scientific evidence available in both individual and collective health and social environments, that adapt to the different evolutionary stages of the human being and to current legislation.
  • Evaluate the response to speech therapy intervention.
  • Plan basic or applied research based on the analysis of the results of previous research in order to provide innovative responses to the needs and demands of the field of knowledge and society.
  • Generate oral and written reports of assessment results, including analysis and interpretation of assessment information, in accordance with the legal requirements for communication with other professionals.
  • Value the scientific works that support the professional development of speech therapists.
  • Establish a relationship with people without prejudice, respecting individual rights, freedom of opinion, values, and considering the sociocultural and psychological diversity of each individual.
