Evolution and impacts of early food production systems (EARLY FOOD)

EarlyFoods is a multidisciplinary research effort involving senior and junior scientists working at the intersection of environmental-social sciences and prehistoric archaeology between the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology and the Department of Prehistory of Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona.

The overarching aims of EarlyFoods are

  1. to advance our understanding of the origins and changing nature of early food production systems, and
  2. to document and quantify their impacts on past natural environments.

EarlyFoods will capitalise on ongoing research projects by members of our team in regions with evidence of contrasting evolutionary trajectories in early food production economies: Southern Europe and Anatolia, and in tropical and subtropical South America.

EarlyFoods will act as a platform for catalysing and supporting research efforts around the subject in these areas.
