NAFSA: Association of International Educators
The UAB is part of NAFSA, the main non-profit International Educators Association dedicated to education and international exchange, made up of 10,000 members from 3,500 institutions in more than 150 countries around the world.
At the annual NAFSA meetings in different cities of the world, the Office of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia of the Secretariat of Universities and Research of the Generalitat of Catalonia organizes a reception for alumni of Catalan universities residing in the area with the aim that Future students attending the event can learn about the experience of studying in Catalonia.
A great opportunity to meet up with the university and network with alumni from the UAB and other Catalan universities.
A delegation from the UAB, made up of Màrius Martínez, vice-rector for International Relations, Katja Schustakowitz, head of the International Relations Area, Montserrat Alegre, technician of the International Relations Area, David Miró, head of international marketing, and Richard John Turner , director of the UAB Study Abroad program, attended the NAFSA Annual Conference "Global Leadership, Learning and Change" in the city of Washington, USA.
"Study in Catalonia", an opportunity to learn about experiences of ex-students
Taking advantage of the conference, the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia Office wanted to bring together the alumni of the Catalan universities residing in Washington in the act "Study in Catalonia", so that future students interested in training in Catalonia could exchange impressions with them and get to know the experience first hand. Of the students who attended, 6 trained at the UAB, being the most represented university at the reception, in which the Secretary of Universities and the Delegate of the Government of the Generalitat thanked the graduates for choosing Catalan universities and highlighted their condition of supporters of the higher educational institutions of our country.
Next, each student made a short intervention explaining their experience as a resident in the United States. The UAB alumni, who graduated in fields such as education, literature, audiovisual communication or criminology, spoke with longing of the days lived in the Autonomous University and of the excellent memory they keep of their time on campus.
Creation of a Chapter Alumni Washington DC
At the end of the institutional ceremony, the Vice Chancellor Martínez and Katja Schustakowitz informed the graduates about the project to create an UAB alumni chapter in Washington DC, encouraging them to keep in touch while presenting them with a small gift.
