On 19 February, the Documentary Film Series on Gender, Migration and Refuge will begin, promoted by the FAS Refugee Reception Programme, which focuses on the phenomenon of migration with a gender perspective. When we reflect on this topic, it is obligatory to speak of cures: cure of people and cure of land, in addition to the repression of women who defend their territories against the theft of transnational corporations, or people who are persecuted in their countries because of their gender identity or sexual orientation.

In order to deepen these questions, 3 documentaries will be screened in a format that combines the watching a debate about the film that will include interviews with experts from collectives and social movements. All screenings are free but limited seating.

On February 19th will be screened at 12 a.m. “Caring Between Lands: Who Sustains Life when Women Migrate?”, which relates the difference in the impact of men and women who migrate. There will be a post-screening debate with Núria Gebellí, co-producer of the documentary, Norma Falconi of Sindillar/Sindihogar and Sara Cuentas of the Migration, Gender and Development Network.

On the other hand, on March 16th at 12 a.m. will be visualized “Flee to Love and Be”, which deals with the criminalization of homosexual persons in Morocco and the persecution of trans persons with fines and imprisonment. Many of them resist, but others are forced to ask for international protection. The post-screening debate will feature Victor Yustres, co-producer of the documentary and Rodrigo Araneda, director of ACATHI.

Finally, on March 30th at 4 p.m., it will be the turn of “Berta Cáceres’s Seeds”, whose main protagonist will be the Honduran human rights defender, who was murdered in 2016. It will have a representative from Entrepueblos association and a speaker to be confirmed.
