Building nest boxes with a renewed style
The Environment volunteering team of the Autonomous Solidarity Foundation (FAS) has been working in the building of nest boxes for birds, and insect hotels, that will be located in different points of the UAB Campus.

This past Thursday, the Environment Programme of the FAS, along with the Environment By Law of Barcelona (OMA), organized a building workshop for volunteers that took place in the civic amenity site of the UAB. The workshop, guided by maintenance workers from the company Tahler, consisted in the building of eight nest boxes and two insect hotels. The aim is to facilitate the survival and nesting of birds and pollinator insects.
In three of the eight nest boxes, there were added the phrases that won the commercial competition that took place last week during the Festa Major of the UAB. Before the workshop, the slogans: “Nest box For Rent, for a tweet friend”; “Reminder: let me sleep, if in the sky flying you want to see me”; and “Tweet, tweet, tweet, take care of my nest” became a pyrography in the UAB Open Labs. In the workshop, the volunteers used these pieces of wood as part of the structure of the nest boxes, making these slogans visible in one of the box’s side. All these structures were created with wood and other recycled materials, supplied as well by Tahler.
The nest boxes will be located in different points of the Campus, substituting the old boxes, or the broken ones, in order to prevent these to be a danger for the birds.
