(Trans)Formations to Educate in Equality, at the 1st International Education and Gender Congress
Description:
The UAB hosts the First International Education and Gender Congress “Other pedagogies: (Trans)Formations to educate in equality”, which aims to become "a space for joint reflection on the construction and limits of educational knowledge, educated bodies, the curriculum and educational policies from their configuration at the State, regional and local levels to their translation into teaching practices". To achieve a dialogue that covers all approaches, the conference is oriented toward researchers, teachers, representatives of the public administration and all other agents of the educational community.
The UAB Education and Gender Research Group, organisers of this congress, find that "taking strong action against sexist biases and other forms of discrimination in the education and training of future educators (teachers, pedagogues, social educators) is necessary".
During the congress' two days, several experts in these fields will be participating in debates and presentations.
The inauguration, at 9 a.m. on Thursday 3 November, will include the attendance of Catalan Minister for Equality and Feminism Tània Verge; UAB General SEcretary Esther Zapater; UAB Faculty of Education Dean Marta Bertran; and Head of Equality Policies at the Faculty of Education Ingrid Agud.
At 9:30 a.m., University of Strathclyde Professor Yvette Taylor will give the inaugural speech entitled "LGBT+ Inclusion or the Queerisation of the Curriculum. Pedagogies of Promise, Hope and Failure".
The closing session will be offered by Gracia Trujillo, from the Complutense University of Madrid, who will talk about "Other forms of living in education spaces: feminist queer ideas and practices". The session will take place on Friday 4 November at 3 p.m.
At 4:30 p.m. the congress will end with a poetry recital and dance performance.
