Open science thermometer
It shows the current state of open science at the University, allows for tracking its evolution, and identifies which areas or sections need more emphasis to advance the creation of an open science environment that contributes to improving the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of teaching, research, and innovation.
It is organized into five pillars: open access, research data, open education, citizen science, and scientific integrity, and presents disaggregated data for the last three years and cumulative data from 2021 onward.
The Open Access pillar shows figures for research documents in the institutional repository, a comparison of CRIS research documents with full text in the repository (global and by knowledge areas), scientific journal articles and doctoral theses in the repository, and titles of diamond journals on the open-source ReDi platform, monographs and collections from the Publications Service. Finally, it shows the evolution of APCs assigned by publishers and by year since transformative agreements began.
On the Research Data axis, figures are shown regarding the datasets published in CORA.RDR
In Open Education, there are figures on challenges (including challenge-based learning and service learning) shared by local stakeholders, entities that have shared challenges, and students who completed their final degree projects addressing those challenges.
Regarding the Citizen Science axis, it shows the projects in this area where the University works.
Finally, in the Scientific Integrity axis, data is provided on the projects evaluated by the Research Ethics Committee.
This thermometer is complementary to the open access figures at UAB that you will find on the following portals (or in the following initiatives):
- Catalan Universities Open Access observatory: aims to monitor the state of Open Access at Catalan universities. Currently, the information source used is OpenAlex.
- Portal de la Recerca de Catalunya: shows the open access status by institution and year for the publications listed on the portal, distinguishing between: Closed, Repository, Bronze, Hybrid, Diamond, and Gold.
- OpenAlex: a free and open bibliographic and bibliometric database.
