Workshop: A journey through time from traditional cartography to GIS tools
On Thursday, May 22, the workshop was held for primary school students as part of the visit to the UAB by participants in the Croma 2.0 Program of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS).

The workshop taught by Meritxell Gisbert, Marta Gil (UAB Humanities Library) and Laura Sala, included two different parts. The first, traditional cartography, presented different objects (stereoscope, 3D glasses, compass, GPS, magnifying glass) and different maps that students could explore while answering the questions posed.
The second part focused on the visualization and consultation of different GIS tools that are the result of research projects of the Department: New indicators for the right to the city: digital technologies, emotions and inequalities (Geography and Gender), and Atlas of Active Mobility (GEMOT). The students, who had a guide with the key points of the research, were able to navigate and use the viewers, while reflecting on the purpose and cases of application of the two tools.
We would like to highlight the enthusiasm of the students, boys and girls in the fifth and sixth grades of primary school from two schools in Terrassa, who participate during the year in the socio-educational program Croma 2.0 and thank the Fundació Autònoma Solidaria for the opportunity to collaborate.
