Next Friday, February 27, a new seminar of the Geography and Gender Research Group will take place.

“Women, Territory and Folk Art. Lace-Makers’ Associations as a Model for the Preservation of Catalan Culture”

Delivered by Dr. Beatriz Navarrete.

The seminar will address the art of lace-making as a form of «situated knowledge», shaped by landscape, geography, and the cultural conditions that influence the imaginaries and techniques specific to the places where it is practiced. Its transmission, historically carried out among women, conveys not only a complex technique but also a particular way of being in the world. The seminar will also highlight the fundamental role of associations in preserving and transmitting this form of popular culture in Catalonia.

The activity is linked to the PhD Programme in Geography and the PhD Programme in Gender Studies: Cultures, Societies and Politics.
