The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine introduces a new clothing system to reinforce biosafety in practical activities
In line with biosafety principles, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has implemented a corporate and regulatory system for protective clothing used during farm placements, anatomy classes, post-mortem examinations and clinical training. This system includes regular cleaning, traceability and return monitoring.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has implemented a renewed clothing and personal protective equipment system aimed at strengthening biosafety measures across all practical activities carried out in farms, anatomy and necropsy facilities, and the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
This initiative responds to observations made in an external review report, which noted that some of the protocols used during teaching activities did not fully align with established biosafety standards. In response, the Faculty has developed a unified, corporate system designed to ensure consistency, improve organisation, and minimise the risk of cross-contamination between spaces and activities.
The new system includes clear usage guidelines, specific storage and return circuits, periodic cleaning procedures, and a more rigorous control of materials. It also defines the responsibilities of teaching staff in ensuring compliance with these measures.
With this implementation, the Faculty takes a significant step forward in addressing the inconsistencies detected and aligning its teaching practices with the highest standards of biosafety, enhancing the safety of students, staff, and facilities.
