Jezer Noé Sauceda Gálvez

Why did you decide to do a PhD project in our Department?

I decided to study a PhD because research is very much dynamic and you can always find yourself pursuing new findings. Research also allows you to make use of your curiosity and thinking capacities for the creation of knew knowledge that can benefit society. The Department of Animal and Food Sciences at the UAB allowed me to keep on studying a similar research line that the one I participated back in my undergraduate years in Mexico, which was the application of novel technologies for the hygienization of foods, and to the direct impact they have on its quality properties, something that I think is very much useful nowadays with the rising demand of better quality and safe products.

What are your future career goals?

I’d like to keep on doing research and development whether it is in a research institute or in industry, while I prepare myself for coming back to the university environment as a research professor. That will allow me not only to work in research, but also to teach and motivate the newer generations into doing something that I feel is my vocation.

What is your advice to potential students?

If you feel passionate about doing research, you really need to make sure that this is what you want to do in the future, because a PhD will take much of your time and energy which is of course worth all the effort if that’s your life path. Enjoy the process, even when there are hardships because overcoming those problems will lead you to new learnings and personal gratification.
