UAB ranks first in Spain in Environmental Sciences, Geography and Veterinary Medicine

The fifth edition of the I-UGR ranking also highlights the UAB as the second best university in Spain in 9 disciplines and in 5 areas of knowledge. The ranking took into account data from the 2009-2014 period.

The fifth edition of the I-UGR rankings of universities in Spain according to scientific fields and disciplines places the UAB in first position in the disciplines of Ecology and Environmental Sciences; Geography and Urbanism; and Veterinary Medicine and Livestock Raising.

In the disciplines of Animal and Plant Biology; Economics; Pharmacy and Toxicology; Medicine; Microbiology and Virology; Neurosciences; Sociology; Political Science; and Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, the UAB occupies second position in the ranking.

With regard to fields of knowledge, a broader category, Earth and Environmental Sciences; Medicine and Pharmacy; Other Social Sciences; Biological Sciences; and Economics, Company and Business; the UAB is also the second best university in all of Spain.

In the fields of Engineering and Agrarian Sciences, the UAB comes in third. The results show Catalonia as the unquestionable leader in the field of engineering, followed by Valencia and Madrid which occupy second and third position respectively.

The ranking is conducted by the research groups EC3-EC3metrics and SCI2S from the University of Grenada and the University of Navarra, and shows the results for 12 scientific fields and 37 scientific disciplines offered in public and private universities around Spain. Its organisation method is made up of the synthesis of six bibliometric scientific output and impact indicators into one sole indicator, and based on the Thomson-Reuters databases: Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports.
