In celebration of this year's International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies, declared, proclaimed by UNESCO in December 2013, the UAB will be holding a series of informative activities in the days to come.

A conference will take place on Wednesday 18 March at 12 noon at the conference hall of the Faculty of Science and Biosciences. Caterina Biscari, Director of the ALBA-CELLS synchrotron, will offer the conference on “ALBA, the First Synchrotron Light in Spain”, in which she will speak in detail on the large synchrotron, the most important scientific facility in Spain.

The Department of Physics, in collaboration with the faculties of Sciences and Biosciences and the School of Engineering, has organised an exhibit with posters on light. The exhibit corresponds to a part of two collections used to create the GoPhoton projects, managed by the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), the SPIE (International Society for Optics and Photonics), in collaboration with SEDOPTICA (Spanish Optics Society). After being on display at the faculties of Sciences and Biosciences, the exhibit will be moved to the UAB School of Engineering until next Friday, 27 March.

Another conference will be offered on Monday 23 March, at 7 pm. “What Lighting to Choose for Public Spaces and for Our Homes?” forms part of the Visions of Science series, coordinated by Lluís Reales, lecturer of the UAB Department of Media, Communication and Culture. The conference will be held at the Sagrada Familia Library in Barcelona and will be given by Maria Güell Ordis, lighting designer.
