The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has presented the 2015 edition of its ranking of the best universities in the world. The UAB is in third position in Spain, behind the University of Barcelona, in 116th place, and the Complutense University of Madrid, 228th. The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya is in 370th place and Pompeu Fabra University is in 375th place.

The ranking is headed by Harvard University, followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford.

To calculate the position of a university, the CWUR uses the following eight indicators: quality of education, measured by the number of a university's students who have won international awards (25% of the final score); alumni employment, measured by the number of a university's alumni who have held CEO positions in top companies (25%); quality of teaching staff, measured by the number of academics who have won major international awards (25%); number of articles published (5%); number of articles published in high-impact journals (5%); number of highly-cited research papers (5%); international impact, measured by the university's h-Index 5%; finally, the number of international patent filings (5%).

CWUR publishes the only global university ranking that uses these indicators without relying on surveys and university data submissions.
