UAB moves up 19 positions in the world ranking CWUR

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), based in Saudi Arabia, recently presented this year's edition of its ranking of the best universities in the world. The UAB moves up 19 positions and reaches 222nd place, and is in second position in Spain, behind the University of Barcelona, in 122nd place. The Pompeu Fabra University is in 390th place and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, 474th.
 
The ranking is headed by Harvard University, followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. All five universities maintain their positions from last year's edition.
 
The CWUR analyses over 25,000 higher education institutions and lists the top 1,000 centres. To evaluate the position of each centre it takes into consideration eight indicators: quality in teaching, measured by the number of a university's students who have won international awards (25% of the final score); alumni employment, measured by the number of a university's alumni who have held CEO positions in top companies (25%); quality of teaching staff, measured by the number of academics who have won major international awards (25%); number of articles published (5%); number of articles published in high-impact journals (5%); number of highly-cited research papers (5%); international impact, measured by the university's h-Index 5%; finally, the number of international patent filings (5%). The UAB stands out in the ranking for its alumni employment rate, quality in teaching, and international patent applications.
