The UAB has begun to lease out its first bikes. This service is aimed at encouraging the university's community to use bicycles as a means of transport when coming to campus by offering the option of leasing a bicycle. The objective of this service is to offer easy access to this vehicle to people who for different reasons cannot or do not want to buy a bicycle.

The service will be free during the promotional period, six months. After the first six months, users will have to pay a fee which is still to be determined. Users will sign a contract with the UAB and, in exchange for a deposit (50 euros for a normal bicycle and 150 for an electric one), they will have access to a bicycle. The contract includes a bike helmet, chain and insurance. The leasing contract is carried out by the VAIC firm of Sant Cugat.

At the moment, users seem very pleased with the service. Over 20 people have applied to lease a bicycle and the first eight vehicles have already been handed over to users (four electric bicycles, 1 mountain bike and 3 foldable bikes). Users are from all university sectors and applications have been received from 11 administration staff members, six students and 4 lecturers.

Putting this service into practice is one of the many measures the UAB plans to take to foster the use of bicycles - sustainable, clean and silent vehicles - among its community. The BiciUAB Plan was presented only a few weeks ago to the university community. Other services which will be implemented in the following months are the Espai BiciUAB, located in a centric area of the campus and offers users the services of a repair shop, an information point, showers around campus and enclosed bike stations distributed throughout the campus.

Bike Draw at the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week
A foldable bicycle was raffled among the attendants of the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week, celebrated at the UAB from 20 to 24 October. Those who signed up for the draw were asked to propose improvements to the revision of the UAB Mobility Plan. Of a total of 700 people participating, the foldable bike went to UAB administration staff member Samuel Durán García.
