The UAB forms part of the new Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN), which includes eighteen centres with outstanding positions in international rankings of universities founded less than 50 years ago. This new association will be working on European research policies and will facilitate the creation of joint scientific and academic projects, as well as the mobility of people and the exchange of knowledge.

The network was founded in Brussels on 9 January. Member universities include those in the QS Ranking Top 50 under 50 and the Times Higher Education Ranking 100 under 50. All of the centres share common values which are defined in the founding document: orientation toward research, commitment to internationalisation, focus on teaching quality and emphasis on graduate employability.

YERUN, which is open to incorporating new members, has set down five objectives: to work together to have young research universities influence research policies in the European Union, conduct activities to generate research collaboration in fields of common interest, enhance academic exchange and development programmes, establish knowledge exchange on university governance and organisation, and establish joint academic programmes at different levels.

In addition to the UAB, three other Spanish institutions also form part of the network: the Autonomous University of Madrid, University Carlos III, Madrid, and the Pompeu Fabra University. Other universities forming part of YERUN are: Universiteit Antwerpen (BE), Universität Bremen (DE), Brunel University London (UK), Dublin City University – DCU (IE), University of Essex (UK), University of Eastern Finland (FI), Universität Konstanz (DE), Linköpings Universitet (SE), Universiteit Maastricht (NL), Universidade Nove de Lisboa (P), Université Paris Dauphine (FR), Universita degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata (IT), Syddansk Universitet (DK) and Universität Ulm(DE).
