The European Commission has accepted the proposal of the Erasmus Mundus "International Master of Science in Infectious Diseases and One Health", available starting in 2017 as a joint programme between the UAB, the University of Edinburgh, UK, and the François Rabelais University in Tours, France. The first edition will begin in 2017. The coordinators of the programme at the UAB will be Natalia Majó and Manel López, lecturers of the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy.

The proposal received a score of 95/100 from the European Commission's Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency. It is one of the 27 approved proposals among the 89 which were presented.

The proposal was evaluated for the relevance of expert knowledge of the partners in the field of infectious diseases affecting humans and animals; in addition to the three universities, the master's degree will include the collaboration of 34 European and non-European associate partners: research centres, industry, public health institutions, etc. The programme will ensure a high level of internationalisation, given that students will study at all three universities. A work placement and practical lessons will include a six-month stay in a research centre or sector-related company.

An International Programme

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degrees are advanced, integrated courses provided by at least three universities from three different European countries. The programme intends to strengthen European collaborations and international ties in higher education. The programme funds high-quality European master's degrees, allowing students and lecturers from around the world to take postgraduate studies at European universities, while promoting the mobility of European university students with other countries. The UAB currently offers eight Erasmus Mundus master's degrees and one PhD programme.
