The “No siguis paparra” campaign encourages a sexism-free FM

Campanya
On occasion of this year’s FM, the UAB Observatory for Equality has launched the “No siguis paparra” (keep your hands to yourself) campaign. The main goal of the campaign is to raise awareness among the university community and to prevent sexism in any of its forms on the pretext of the festive mood of the FM.

In order to ensure a healthy festival that is free of sexual harassment, the Observatory for Equality has launched the “No siguis paparra” (keep your hands to yourself) campaign to raise awareness among the university community and to prevent sexual harassment and violence on the pretext of the festive mood of the FM. With that in mind, the campaign poster will appear all across the UAB campus. The student stalls at the Plaça Cívica and Plaça del Coneixement will also be handing out an anti-sexism kit containing the security service telephone number and useful information on how to act should you suffer from or witness sexual aggression.

The festive mood of the FM must not be used as an excuse for any sort of sexist attitude. It is very important for the whole university community to be aware of and to identify these kinds of incidents. Sexual leering or whistling, sexist jokes, insults, humiliation, inappropriate physical contact, sexual harassment or jealousy are some of the indicators of a sexist attitude mentioned in the campaign poster.

This year, the Observatory for Equality has drawn up an action plan in the event of suffering or witnessing sexist harassment during the FM. The security staff and stage managers working at the FM have received specific training on the action plan from the Observatory for Equality and Community Involvement. The students on the stalls and student society members have also been also trained in the prevention of sexist incidents. In that regard, activities at the FM must not encourage sexism in any of its forms and FM work shifts have been established equally for men and women. It is everyone’s responsibility to prevent sexism at the UABFM16.
