La segona promoció del doctorat Erasmus Mundus LAST-JD arriba a la UAB

Nowadays this specialization of the Official Master's Degree in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies is recognized by the professional body AIIC (International Association of Conference Interpreters). It also receives pedagogical support from both the European Commission’s Directorate General for Interpretation and the European Parliament.

Now entering its ninth year, the Conference Interpreting specialization is one of Spain’s most prestigious programmes training professionals in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. This one-year programme prepares students for top-level professional practice in the private and institutional conference interpreting markets.

Students are taught by a team of 9 professional conference interpreters with wide experience in national and international organizations and the private conference interpreting market.

The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting has a state-of-the art training suite, comprising three classrooms equipped with fully digitized double interpreting booths and videoconferencing facilities, which enable students to participate regularly in virtual classes taught by EU staff interpreters from DG-Interpretation and the European Parliament - undoubtedly one of the highlights of the programme. 

In their final examinations, students are assessed by a jury including external examiners representing both national and international institutions such as the Spanish Foreign Ministry and the EU.

Thanks to a strategic grant from the European Parliament, in 2014-2015 the UAB’s Master in Conference Interpreting will for the first time train interpreters with English as their A or B language. The languages offered are English/Spanish A; English/Spanish B; English, Spanish, German/French C.

The “A” language is the interpreter’s mother tongue (or strict equivalent) into which they work from all their other working languages in both consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. It is the interpreter’s main active language.

A “B” language is a language in which the interpreter is perfectly fluent, but it is not their mother tongue. An interpreter can work into this language from one or several of their working languages. It is an active language for the interpreter.

A “C” language is one which the interpreter understands perfectly, but into which they do not work. It is a passive language for the interpreter. The interpreter will interpret from their C languages into their active languages.
