IBB Open Days on 11 and 12 March

TheThe UAB Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB) has organised a series of workshops for 11 and 12 March to inform about the activities carried out by the centre's researchers and the academic programmes offered (master's degrees, PhD programmes and dissertations).

03/03/2015

The IBB Open Days aim to communicate to society the research tasks carried out by the centre's researchers, and offer students the chance to discover academic programmes (master's degrees, PhD programmes and dissertations), thus fostering future synergies and collaborations between researchers in biomedicine, biotechnology, and in other disciplines.

The two-day event will begin on 11 March at 12 noon at the conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences and the opening speech will be given by Xavier Daura, Director of IBB. Following the opening speech, James Sharpe, ICREA research professor at the Centre for Genomic Regulation, will offer a conference in English on in silico modelling (computer modelling) of the formation of tissues and organs, which are extraordinarily complex processes in which a multitude of genes take part. Sharpe will specifically speak on how to use a computer to model the formation of a vertebrate's extremity.

The event is structured into two consecutive days and offer several guided tours: at 3, 4 and 5 pm (11 March) and at 11 am and 1 pm on (12 March). The tour will cover laboratories and facilities related to in vitro, in vivo and in silico research.

Visitors will also have the chance to attend a session of posters at the central courtyard of the IBB, where researchers will be available to answer questions on their work or on how the centre is organised.

The event will include the participation of research directors of different groups, as well as senior and junior research staff and IBB administrative and technical staff.
