Ganàpies makes history and completes the 2 de 7 amb folre

On 11 December 2014 the group Ganàpies de la UAB, the colla castellera (or human towers group) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, celebrated its diada d’hivern as part of the commemorative events for its 20th anniversary. More than 600 people and 6 colles castelleres formed at Catalan universities (Ganàpies de la UAB, Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària, Bergants del Campus Terrassa, Emboirats de la UVic, Marracos de la UdL and Xoriguers de la UdG) enjoyed the activities during the day.

Throughout the diada, the Ganàpies de la UAB and the Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària made history because they completed unprecedentedcastells. Ganàpies completed to the top and successfully dismantled a castell de 3 de 8 amb folre, something never accomplished in the university casteller world. Ganàpies improved themselves again and could complete two castells never seen during its history. In the first round they could complete to the top and successfully dismantle a 9 de 6, and in the second round they performed a 2 de 7 amb folre, a castell that they couldn’t complete and finally it caused the end of the performance and the ambulance had to leave to take care of the people injured.

Apart from the castells, the diada also had other community activities. It started at 12 pm at the Plaça Cívica with a butifarra contest (Catalan card game) and ended at 7 pm with Jaume Barri’s concert and a group dinner.
