Francesc Parcerisas, winner of the National Prize for Culture

Professor at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, Francesc Parcerisas received the National Prize for Culture on 17 June for the relevance of his work as both author and translator, and for his work at the head of the Institute for Catalan Letters from 1998 to 2004.

The jury of the prize awarded by the Catalan National Council for Culture and Arts (CoNCA) pointed out his contributions to Catalan literature, from his first works such as Homes que es banyen (1970) and compilations such as Triomf del present. Obra poètica 1965-1983 (1991), as well as creations such as Natura morta amb nens (2000), Dos dies més de sud (2006) and his latest work Seixanta-un poemes (2014). The jury also recognised the excellence of his translations into Catalan, especially that of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (2002) and of Odyssey (2010), as well as the translations of work by renowned authors such as Joseph Conrad, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Seamus Heaney. His work at the head of the Institute for Catalan Letters from 1998 to 2004 helped to consolidate this institution.

The CoNCA awards this prize - considered to be the most important in culture in Catalonia - to personalities and entities demonstrating an exceptional excellence in their work and a personal and innovative view in their line of work.

The awards ceremony took place at the Teatre Romea of Barcelona.
