The UAB will hold the 4th edition of the High School Debate League. On 6 and 7 February, the participating teams will discuss the topic “Do animals have rights?” Before the debates, the UAB is organizing training workshops (carried out by a UAB student) in several high schools for students to learn the structure and the spirit of the debates.

The aim of the League is to promote a good command of communication skills among students through dialectic confrontation, and improve their public speaking. Thus, the teams will have to adopt a position in favour of or against a current topic. The aspects assessed will be teamwork, the lines of argument and expressing oneself clearly. The Debate League is a great chance for students to improve their oratory skills.

The High School Debate League is also a way to develop closer links between the UAB and high schools. Through the experience acquired in the previous editions of the University Debates, the UAB has strengthened its commitment to the Xarxa Vives d’Universitats, the organization behind the debates.

This year, the high schools participating in the League are located in the area close to the UAB: El Cim, Les Termes, Sant Gervasi, Hipàtia d’Alexandria, Celestí Bellera, Thau Sant Cugat, Jaume Mimó, Vedruna and Les Vinyes. The winning team will enter the finals of the League that will take place on 27, 28 and 29 April at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
