Research aiming to make video games more accessible seeks students with dyslexia
The UAB TransMedia Catalonia research group—expert in audiovisual accessibility—is researching how to make video games more accessible and invites UAB students with dyslexia to participate in a focus group.
The research group TransMedia Catalonia of the UAB has been working for some time in the field of audiovisual accessibility. It is currently developing a project called WEL with which they want to investigate, among other things, accessibility to video games for people with cognitive disabilities or learning difficulties.
To start the research they have planned to create different focus groups to learn about the needs of video game players with dyslexia. Therefore, they are calling for UAB students with dyslexia to participate in the focus groups. The researchers are looking for first-hand feedback, as well as the difficulties these students encounter when playing video games.
Students who would like to participate, or would like more information, can send an email to Miguel Angel Oliva Zamora, researcher of the TransMediaCatalonia group and professor at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting: MiguelAngel.Oliva@uab.cat.
The WEL project (from written text to oral text in easy-to-read: easy audios in cultural visits and video games) is a project which began last year and will end in 2025, led by UAB professors Carme Mangiron and Anna Matamala. It is funded by the Spanish Ministry for Science, Innovation and Universities.
