"It's all about organisation, effort and work. Setting yourself targets and working to reach them".

Elena Bulet will take Journalism, after giving a presentation at school and realising how much she enjoyed speaking in public. Her eyes light up when we go into the TV studio to record this video, just at the thought of being there at the front very soon. She is very excited about doing Journalism.

She hopes to be able to combine her studies with playing in a federated basketball team and singing in a Gospel choir in the Sarrià district of Barcelona where she lives. She would also like to get a taste of real-life journalism by working with a local media outlet. For the moment she has her own blog in which she expresses her thoughts and feelings: http://vianantdespert.blogspot.com.es/

-Why did you choose the UAB?
-Because of all the facilities it has, its campus and surroundings, its services, etc. I was impressed by all that, though I was also thinking about the Pompeu Fabra. But then I came up here one Saturday for the Open Day for families and finally made up my mind when I went to the talks in the Faculty of Communication Studies and saw the TV and radio studios.

-And the reason for taking Journalism at the UAB?
Well I also spoke to other people who advised me to pick the UAB. Then I noticed that the Journalism syllabus at the Autònoma is less specialised than the one at the Pompeu Fabra, which is what I wanted.

-Was Journalism a vocational choice?
-Well I don't know about that. What I can say is that I've always liked acting, singing and speaking in public. I love doing that. I've always liked putting my thoughts into words. At first I thought of doing Advertising but then I realised it was Journalism I really wanted to do.

-What are you hoping to get out of this course? What would you like to be taught?
I'd like them to teach me how to grab people's attention when you write something or give a talk. I mean, how to get the audience's attention and help them to understand the point you're making properly.

-How do you see your future in the profession?
I'd like to work somewhere like TV3, in television, or Catalunya Radio in radio, writing news stories and presenting them. That would be my ideal future in the profession....

-And how did you manage to get such good results at school?
Well, it's all about organisation, effort and work. Setting yourself targets and working to reach them. I've been doing other things apart from studying, like basketball, which is great for unwinding, and Gospel, which I love, and I've even started to take piano lessons at a music school, which is a lot of fun. You can do anything if you get organised and work hard.
