Bachelor's Degree in Applied Statistics + Bachelor's Degree in Sociology
PresentationThe need for collaboration between statistics and sociology is evident: those measuring social realities must be familiar with the internal logic of societies, and those studying societies must be able to use complex analyses tools.
The combined degree in Applied Statistics and Sociology aspires to prepare academics and researchers in several fields of social life (e.g. public opinion, mass media, demography, trends, economic and cultural consumption, etc.), as well as professionals specialising in the management of large volumes of data (in logistics, urbanism, market analysis, management of public health care, e-commerce and online networks, etc.).
Market research companies, polling institutes, statistic centres, etc. need professionals who can carry out these tasks intelligently and rigorously.
The work carried out by specialists in statistics and sociology is perfectly recognised socially and can be applied to a variety of areas, ranging from official organisations in statistic information, such as the National Statistics Institute (INE), the Statistics Institute of Catalonia (Idescat), the Centre for Opinion Studies (CEO) and the Centre for Sociological Research (CIS), to market research companies, increasingly present in our society and based on sociology and statistics with the aim of detecting likes, preferences and opinions of citizens.
Given the type of campus UAB has with almost all faculties close to each other, students will have no problem in taking this combined degree and attending classes at different faculties.
Student ProfileThe Bachelor's Degree in Sociology is of particular appeal to those interested in social life, conflicts and inequalities, and in human and collective behaviours. This combined degree is very adequate for students interested in a rigorous and precise academic programme.
Career optionsAfter completing this double degree, students will be prepared to work in public administration departments (statistical centres, city councils. etc.), in private businesses (market research, surveys, data analysis and processing, quality control, logistics, etc.), service sector (associations, professional organisations, etc.) and research centres (universities, foundations, etc.), all with a strong international outlook.
