Maternitat Subrogada. El debat cientŪfic, Ťtic i legal. (Surrogacy. The scientific, ethical and legal debate)

Campus activities - Sala d'Actes, Faculty of Biosciences

Description:

Nowadays, surrogacy makes the front pages of many newspapers and magazines in Spain, but... What is it exactly?
Surrogacy or surrogate pregnancy is a method or agreement whereby a woman agrees to carry a pregnancy, by in vitro fertilization, for another person or persons, who will become the newborn child's parent or parents after birth.
This method is currently illegal in Spain, but the existing debate between supporters and opponents is attracting huge media attention.

In this context, the ASBTEC group organizes a free debate on SURROGACY, where 4 speakers will reflect on this issue from different points of view, some in favour and some against. After that, the debate will be open for all attendees to express their opinion.

We are delighted to have at the debate:
Maria Casado: Chair of the Centre d’Investigació Observatori de Bioètica i Dret (OBD) of the Universitat de Barcelona, who will talk about the ethical and legal aspects of this matter.
Montse Boada: Chair of the Labs for in vitro, andrology and preimplantational genetic diagnosis at the Quiron-Dexeus Hospital, who will talk from a scientific point of view.
Juan Tecles: international CEO of CT-Fertility, an American firm who has been delivering reproduction treatments to its clients since 1991, such as surrogacy.
Noelia Igareda: Ph.D. in Law by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, who will make arguments against this method.
The debate will be moderated by Ph.D. Josep Santaló, Professor of Cell Biology.
