Historical thinking of the national and regional crises of Spain

On 15 and 16 May, the conference Pensar històricament les crisis nacionals i territorials a Espanya [Historical Thinking of National and Regional Crises in Spain] will take place, organised by the Centre for Studies on Dictatorships and Democracies at the UAB (CEDID) and the European School of Humanities. The activity forms part of the research project "Estat i dinàmiques nacionals a Espanya (1931-1978)", of which Xavier Domènech and Francesc Vilanova, lecturers in modern history at the UAB, are the main researchers.

The meeting aims to debate different tensioning elements and proposals related to the connections between several national projects and the state of Spain, from a historical and also international point of view. 

On Thursday 16 May, the second conference day will begin with the third session led by Vega Rodríguez-Flores and Aurelio Martí Bataller, both lecturers in the Department of Modern and Early Modern History of the University of Valencia. They will speak on democratic experience and plurinationality in a conference entitled “Experiències democràtiques i integració de la plurinacionalitat”. The fourth and last session will include the participation of Andrew Dowling, lecturer in Catalan and Spanish History at the University of Cardiff, Wales, and Pau Casanellas, lecturer in the Department of Modern and Early Modern History at the UAB, entitled “Experiències dictatorials en l’intent d’erradicar la plurinacionalitat” [Dictatorial Experiences in the Intent to Eradicate Plurinationality].
