A new study involving ICTA-UAB researcher Gonzalo Gamboa shows that mountain sheep grazing systems provide multiple ecological, socio-economic, and food quality benefits to society.

These benefits include the production of healthy and high quality food, the conservation of biodiversity, and the generation of employment and income in marginal lands of loweconomic productivity but high natural value.

Careful attention is needed to ensure the maintenance of these traditional systems that are at risk in various mountain regions.

The study, published in the scientific journal Agronomy for Sustainable Development, was led by researchers from the University of the Basque Country.
