. The LIFE Aquaenvec project, with the involvement of the research group Sostenipra from ICTA-UAB led by researchers Joan Rieradevall and Xavier Gabarrell, has been declared Best LIFE-Environment Project 2015, along with 24 other European LIFE funded projects.

. Aquaenvec focused on evaluating and improving the eco-efficiency of urban water cycle through life-cycle assessment and costing. The two case studies were Betanzos (A Coruña) and Calafell (Tarragona).

The EU Member States represented on the LIFE Committee, together with the LIFE Unit, recently identified the 25 Best Projects completed during 2015. Among these programmes is Life AQUAENVEC, coordinated by Cetaqua (Centro Tecnológico del Agua) and conducted in cooperation with the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB), the Universidad de Santiago and the Universitat de València.

People can still vote now for their favourite LIFE Environment project here. Voting will end on Monday 30/05/2016. The award ceremony will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on May 31. This recognition is in addition to the Best European on-going project award received by European Projects Association (EPA) in 2013.

Aquaenvec, which ran from 2012 to late 2015, focused on evaluating and improving the eco-efficiency of urban water cycle through life-cycle assessment and costing. The two case studies were Betanzos (A Coruña) and Calafell (Tarragona). As a result of the project a web tool for assessing eco-efficiency in the urban water cycle is available at http://tool.life-aquaenvec.eu/en. Thus, the Aquaenvec tool helps decision-making to improve the relationship between environmental impact and cost of urban water cycle activities.
