ICTA-UAB joins the Data Manifesto
The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB) is one of the institutions in Catalonia which have adhered to the Data Manifesto, presented by Idescat and Catalan Statistical Society on Tuesday 20 October, on the occasion of the celebration of World Statistics Day.
We are currently amidst the age of the data revolution -past the industrial revolution and the ICT revolution. Human activity within society, alongside Public Administration and private organisations, generates large amounts of data, which will be the source of wealth of the 21st century, just as oil was in the 20th century or steam in the 19th.
The intention behind this Manifesto is to make public administrations and society at large aware that an adequate use of data can create a broad range of opportunities at different levels of the social and economic domains of our country.
During the event presentation ceremony, Professor Diego Puga gave a talk on “Social benefits of the use of administrative data in research". Also, there were a number of speeches given by representatives of the institutions in Catalonia which have adhered to the Manifesto. The director of ICTA-UAB, Jordina Belmonte emphasized the importance of making the Administration’s data available to research centres and encouraged scientists to share their data, too.
For the moment, the institutions which have adhered to the Manifesto are the Catalan Statistical Society (SCE), Agency for Healthcare Quality and Evaluation of Catalonia (AQuAS), Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Barcelona GSE), Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI), Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), Centre for Demographic Studies (CED), Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL), Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), Catalan Institute for the Evaluation of Public Policies (Ivàlua), Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (ICTA), Institute of Government and Public Policy (IGOP), Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat), Reference Network in Economics and Public Policies (XREPP).
