Green corridors (Eixos Verds in Catalan) are urban strips with a high presence of vegetation that cross the urban fabric and link the different areas of the city. Currently, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) bares the potential to create more than 750 km. of these infrastructures.

Considering this, a co-creation workshop was organized by ICTA-UAB for the dissemination of studies on the Eixos Verds and the selection, negotiation and weighting of the criteria for their evaluation. Among the results obtained, it can be highlighted that:

  • Multifunctionality was perceived as the most important dimension when evaluating the Eixos Verds.
  • Connectivity between green infrastructures for social and ecological functions are the most relevant benefits that can be provided by these corridors.
  • Heat exposure is a priority criterion to consider when assessing urban vulnerabilities in the AMB.
  • Water depletion is one of the main aspects to consider for the sustainability of the Eixos Verds.

The co-creation workshop was organized by ICTA-UAB researchers from the URBAG team with the assistance of the Barcelona’s Metropolitan Urban Planning Plan team (PDU). It was implemented in an innovative online format and attracted more than forty participants across different sectors (public, academic, private) and planning scales (from municipalities to the Generalitat de Catalunya).
