Seminar: "Increasing inequality in agri-food value chains: global trends from 1995-2020"
Speaker: Meghna Goyal, ICTA-UAB doctoral candidate at ICTA-UAB
- Date: Tuesday, January13th, 2026
- Time: 15 -16h (CET)
- Venue: Online ONLY - https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86180037815?pwd=PNjgikbqGwpFThoEnz2Q3Ey98QlPRh.1
The talk will present current research on empirical estimations of global inequality in agri-food value chains. Globalisation and trade has led to increasing inter-sectoral and between country inequality. The argument will be made that inequality is part of the organising logic of global value chains, and is a continuation of rural-urban “transfers of value” since capitalism organised production globally.See article: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.gfs.2025.100883
Meghna Goyal is a doctoral candidate with the REAL project at ICTA-UAB. Her work focuses on international trade in value chain analysis and unequal exchange in the agri-food sector. Broadly, she's interested in the governing logic of value chain analysis and determination.
