Speaker: Rolf Steppacher, Graduate Institute of Development Studies in Geneva. Dr Steppacher completed his PhD in economics under the supervision of K. William Kapp of whom he was assistant for six years. He subsequently taught ecological and critical institutional economics at the Graduate Institute of Development Studies in Geneva as well as economic anthropology at the University of Zurich. He spent two years in India and Bali studying agrarian development issues and published on institutional economics, property economics, rural institutions, eco-development, and the history of economic thought. Content: The speaker will present his research on the differences between the institutions of property and of possession, the effects of their association with biotic or mineral resources, and the overall implications for 'sustainable development'.
