Description:

The UAB will be the scenario of the tenth edition of this conference, organised by the Botstiber Institute for Wildlife Fertility Control (BIWFC) in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The welcome session will be given by Javier Lafuente, rector of the UAB, Josep Maria López Martín, deputy director general of Fauna Cinegètica, Caça i Pesca Continental of the Government of Catalonia, and Monique Principi, director general of BIWFC.

The congress will once again bring together the international scientific and professional community in this specialised field to provide continuity to previous international forums dedicated to the control of wildlife fertility and the role that these strategies can play in mitigating conflicts between humans and wildlife.

With the title "Bridging the Gap: From Science to Management", the meeting aims to bring scientific research closer to practical management on the ground. Professionals from various disciplines will gather to share the latest advances in areas such as research and development of new strategies, improvement of existing methods, ongoing and completed field studies, identification and management systems, practical application case studies, the human dimension of wildlife management, stakeholder participation, scientific communication, and the social, regulatory and political challenges associated with this field.

The plenary session programme will feature the participation of four prominent international voices in the field of wildlife fertility control:

- Giovanna Massei, director of BIWFC in Europe and professor of Human Interactions with Wildlife at the University of York, United Kingdom, will present the paper "Too many? Wildlife fertility control in the future".

- Jordan Hampton, senior professor of Veterinary Physiology at the School of Veterinary Medicine Harry Butler Institute of Murdoch University, Australia, will offer the conference "Navigating contemporary animal welfare expectations in wildlife fertility control".

- Cameron Kovach, head of programmes at The Wildlife Society (TWS), will give the presentation "Transforming wildlife management: making space for new ideas".

- John Boone, research director of the Great Basin Bird Observatory, United States, will address the management of free-roaming cat populations with the session "Making the most of fertility control: Insights from free-roaming cat population management".

Attendance at the conference will allow participants to obtain up to 14.5 Category I continuing education credits (CEUs) within the Certified Wildlife Biologist title renewal and professional development programme, offered by The Wildlife Society, with the equivalence of one credit for each hour of training.

The fact that this conference is being held at the UAB consolidates the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine as an international reference space in research, knowledge transfer, and debate on the sustainable management of wildlife.

The Talent with Social Impact Conference combines the presentation of the 9th Arcadi Oliveres TFG Awards for Global Justice and the 7th UAB Service Learning Conference.

These awards aim to give visibility to students who dedicated their Final Degree Project to analysing and proposing solutions that contribute to social transformation.

The event will be hosted by Maria Bouabdellah, a journalist graduated from the UAB and presenter on 3Cat.

The event will begin with an inaugural round table and explore how the work of the awardees connects with current debates, activism and education for global justice. Several UAB alumni will be participating: Namar Alimbau, Global Justice Education Technician at LaFede.cat; Alaaddine Azzouzi, anti-racist activist and journalist at 3Cat; and Marta Benosa, activist for the defense of the territory. The session will be moderated by Oscar Tercero, student at the Faculty of Communication Studies and editor at UABmèdia.

The best Arcadi Oliveres Final Degree Projects (TFG), focused on Global Justice, and those developed with the Learning and Service methodology will be awarded. The award-winning students will present their research and the social impact they have generated.

After the event, there will be snacks and refreshments and a Fair of Entities - Service Learning will be held. There will be stands from entities from the social and environmental world, administrations, etc. that will publicise the opportunities for teaching staff and students of service learning at the university.

This event is organised by the Fundació Autònoma Solidària and the Office of Learning and Service of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), with the support of the Barcelona City Council.

The Group on Immigration and Ethnic Minorities (GEDIME) and the Centre for Migration Studies and Research (CER-M) of the UAB are working with the Millennium Nucleus for Research on Anti-Racist Chilean Education (MRACE) to organise a seminar entitled "Unaccompanied migrant adolescents in Chile: a new migratory actor". The session will take place on 29 April at 11:00 a.m. in the Boardroom of the UAB Faculty of Political Science and Sociology.

The seminar will be given by Iskra Pavez, researcher at CER-M and the MRACE group at the UAB. The speaker will address the emergence of unaccompanied migrant adolescents in Chile as a relevant social and political subject within contemporary migratory flows. There will be reflections on their migratory trajectories, the reception conditions, and the institutional and social challenges they pose, as well as on the educational and political responses provided within the Chilean context.

Carme Mangiron is lecturer of the Department of Translation and Interpreting & East Asian Studies of the UAB, and member of the TransMedia Catalonia research group and of the AccessCat network.

Carme Mangiron will sit in the Science Carriage's Expert Seat and explain how to design a video game that has no physical, sensory or cognitive barriers, and how professionals work on creating more inclusive video games which are accessible for everyone.

The activity will take place on 30 April on the 9:28 a.m. train from Plaça Catalunya to the UAB.

As part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the UAB Physical Activity Service (SAF) the centre will be holding a round table entitled "Physical activity and sport in the university of the future: challenges, opportunities and social impact". The event will take place on Thursday 30 April and aims to promote a shared reflection on the current situation, challenges and future prospects of physical activity and sports in the university environment.

The round table will bring together representatives from the Ministry for Sports of the Government of Catalonia (General Secretariat of Sports), the Youth Sports Foundation of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), Catalan University Sports (ECU), and the European Network of Academic Sports Services (ENAS). It will be a space for plural dialogue to share experiences, strategic visions and good practices.

The SAF is celebrating its 40th anniversary this academic year, with 30,000 square metres of sports areas, almost 10,000 SAF members, more than 130 hours of guided activities per week, 10 sports programmes that range from support for high-performance athletes (Tutoresport) to the representation of UAB athletes in interuniversity competitions and a team of 65 professionals.

Description:

Judith Butler, professor at University of California, Berkeley, will recieve an honorary doctorate from the UAB after being proposed for the award by the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. The investiture ceremony will take place on 4 May at 12 noon at the UAB Auditorium, Faculty of Arts & Humanities. Lupe Romero, lecturer in Translation and Interpreting, will be the sponsor of the UAB's newest honorary doctor, and the event will be presided by Rector Javier Lafuente. Registrations are no longer accepted due to the maximum in-person capacity having already been reached. However, the ceremony will be streamed live on the UAB's YouTube channel for those who are not able to attend.  

Judith Butler holds the University of California, Berkeley, Distinguished Chair in Comparative Literature. Their contributions to the fields of philosophy and feminist and queer theory, as explained in the honorary doctorate proposal, are among the most influential of our time worldwide. The distinction seeks to recognise Dr Butler's contribution "to the development of contemporary critical thought and, in particular, for their decisive impact on translation and multicultural studies, East Asian studies, and reflection on feminism and queer theory as values ​​of global justice and university ethics".
