Engineers also create video games!
Description:
As part of the Tarima educational series of the UAB Science and Technology Library, the talk "Engineers also make video games! Video games at the School of Engineering" will take place, with the participation of professor Enric Martí Gòdia, and UAB alumni Carlos Adán López and Levani Makharash.
Attendees will learn first-hand about the teaching of video games at the School of Engineering and the two former students of the School of Engineering will explain their experience in video games, both during their studies and now at a professional level.

Josep Santaló speaks about bioethics at the celebration of Sant Albert 2025
Description:
Josep Santaló, professor of Cell Biology at the UAB and expert in bioethics and developmental biology, will give the conference "When do we start to be who we are?" at the Saint Albert's Day celebration event organised by the Faculty of Biosciences and the Faculty of Science on 5 November. It will take place at 11 a.m. in the faculty conference hall, and will also feature institutional interventions by the UAB's general secretary, Esther Zapater; the dean of the Faculty of Biosciences, Isidre Gibert; and the dean of the Faculty of Science, Juan Jesús Donaire.

Conference by Nobel Laureate in Medicine Craig C. Mello: "RNAi: A molecular spark in an information inferno"
Description:
American researcher Craig Cameron Mello, awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 2006 for his discovery of RNA interference, will deliver the lecture “RNAi: A molecular spark in an information inferno.” Mello has been a researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Maryland since the year 2000.
The conference is part of the Nobel Prize Inspiration Initiative, a programme organised by the Nobel Prize Outreach, in collaboration with the AstraZeneca Foundation, to bring Nobel prize winners closer to the scientific community and, especially, to young researchers.
Professor Mello will describe the research and challenges faced before and after receiving the award, which he was awarded together with fellow American pathologist Andrew Fire. He also will describe the history of the discovery of RNA interference, a fundamental mechanism in controlling the flow of genetic information.

Presentation of the Citizen Observatory Against Corruption
Description:
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the social pact against corruption signed in the Parliament of Catalonia by civic entities and political parties, the Sala de graus of the Faculty of Law will host the presentation of the Citizen Observatory Against Corruption on 5 november at 1:00 p.m. Gemma Rubí, professor of contemporary history at the UAB and director of the Research Group on Political Studies, Identities, Institutions and Corruption (GREPIIC-UAB), will present the event. Joan Lluís Pérez Francesch, professor of constitutional law at the UAB, will then give a presentation entitled "The culture of integrity". The president of the Observatory, Itzíar González, will also give a speech.

The UAB organises its PhD degrees and extraordinary awards ceremony, to be held on 7 November. In the ceremony, the PhD degrees will be awarded and the work of the winners will be presented. Pirates and AI challenges at this year's UAB THE HACK!
Description:
The UAB School of Engineering is organising the new edition of the UAB THE HACK! hackathon on the weekend of 8 and 9 November. The hackathon will focus on artificial intelligence, data analysis and technological development under the theme "Pirates".
The event will take place over 32 hours of learning and fun, with total technological immersion. During the session, participants will face challenges imposed by companies in the sector, working in multidisciplinary teams and using next-generation tools.
It will feature the participation of prominent companies and institutions such as Caixa Enginyers, Quether, the UAB's Information and Communication Technologies Department, Deloitte and the Aina project, promoted by the Government of Catalonia and developed by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS).
