Growing older and grief. How to face menopause, andropause and retirement
Description:
The AFIN group, a research and laboratory group providing scientific-technical and academic services at the UAB, in collaboration with the “la Caixa” Foundation, is organising a conference series entitled "Humanistic Challenges on recognising and dealing with grief to live better", under the scientific direction of Diana Marre, professor of anthropology at the UAB and director of the AFIN group.
The second conference, on grieving at an older age, will deal with processes that we face throughout life and that are necessary to grow, such as menopause, andropause and retirement. The conference will be given by María Fernanda Peraza, a medical expert in urology, andrology and sexual and reproductive medicine at the Clínica Corachán Urology Department; Elisa Llurba, medical expert in gynaecology, obstetrics and menopause and head of the Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Assisted Reproduction Service of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau; and Josep Vilajoana, doctor in psychology and expert in bereavement with more than 20 years of practice in various foundations and social services.

First Conference on Animal Biosecurity at the UAB campus
Description:
The UAB campus organises the First Conference on Animal Biosecurity in which topics such as the importance of the human factor in the implementation of biosecurity measures, the role of technologies, and future needs in research and education will be presented.
Representatives of the conference will be experts in the field of animal biosecurity, working in European research projects such as Biosecure, industry and international organisations: World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). The congress will also serve to present the results of four years of work of the European biosafety network BETTER and the new World Animal Biosafety Association (WABA) will be launched.

Legal Feminisms for the 25th Anniversary of Grup Antígona
Description:
The Grup Antígona of the UAB celebrates its 25th anniversary with an academic conference entitled “Feminismes jurídics davant les violències neoliberals i patriarcals” [Legal feminisms in the face of neoliberal and patriarchal violence], with the aim of reflecting and discussing teaching, research and legal advocacy from a feminist perspective.
The conference will take place on 5 June at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Law. Those interested in attending can sign up here.
Grup Antígona is a UAB research centre focusing on women's rights from a gender perspective. It analyses legislation, public policies and criminal justice, addressing issues such as gender violence, bioethics and masculinities. It collaborates with universities, municipalities and NGOs and promotes training through graduate programmes and annual conferences. The aim is to clarify and improve the development of women's rights in Spain.

Fostering equality in sports
Description:
On Thursday 5 June at 10:30 a.m., the Faculty of Communication Studies will be hosting an event promoting equality in sports. This initiative is organised by the Spanish Olympics Committee (COE) and the energy company Iberdrola, with the collaboration of the Sport Research Institute (IRE-UAB). The event will serve officially to present the initiative entitled "Fostering Equality in Sports". Following the presentation, the documentary Empoderament de dones a l'esport will be screened. The event will end with a round table with Laura Ester, gold medal winner in Paris 2024, silver medal winner in Tokyo 2020, Olympic diploma in Rio 2016, and silver medal winner in London 2012; Joan Jorquera, world medallist and European medallist in Taekwondo, and broze medallist at the European Games in Kraków 2023; and Marta Borrueco, IRE-UAB researcher specialising in dual careers and gender perspective.

Global reconfigurations and the centrality of the South: Africa as a mirror and actor
Description:
Sociologist and economist from Guinea-Bissau Carlos Lopes, high representative of the African Union at the United Nations, will give a talk on “Global reconfigurations and centrality of the South: Africa as mirror and actor” on 5 June at 1:00 p.m., in Aula 4 of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. The event is organised by the José Saramago Chair at the UAB. Lopes, honorary professor at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, will also present his new book The Self-Deception Trap. Exploring the Economic Dimensions of Charity Dependency within Africa-Europe Relations (Palgrave/Springer), which is open access. The event will be moderated by Professor Nazir Ahmed Can and will be attended by diplomatic representatives from Brazil, Portugal and Mozambique. Lopes was elected Economist of the Year 2024 at the annual awards of the pan-African magazine Financial Afrik.

Without laws there is no society: a journey to ancient law

Stefania Giombini, lecturer in the Department of Public Law and Legal History Studies of the UAB, will give a conference within the Un cafè de Dret series, organised by the AmicsUAB.
