Nanomedicine: present and future challenges
Description:
The Seminaris a l’Abast series is a dynamic and participatory training space where current and interesting topics are discussed. The series includes 8 2-hour sessions, independent of each other, with a total duration of 16 hours. Registration can be made for the entire series or for individual sessions, online or face-to-face.
The programme begins on 22 October with the session “Nanomedicine: present and future challenges”. The activity will focus on current advances and challenges in the field of nanomedicine and will feature the participation of Julia Lorenzo, lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UAB and principal investigator in the Protein Engineering and Nanomedicine group at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB-UAB).
The session will provide an overview of current advances in nanomedicine, exploring the main applications in disease diagnosis and treatment. Special emphasis will be placed on targeted nanotherapy, controlled drug release, and molecular diagnostic platforms.

Second session on premature pregnancy losses
Description:
On 23 October the UAB's AFIN group organises the second session of Premature Pregnancy Losses: breaking down taboos, building bridges and adding voices. The session will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Palau Macaya of Barcelona. This activity, which forms part of a research project funded by La Caixa, the Barcelona City Council, the Institute for Women and the Instituto Carlos III, is addressed particularly to healthcare and educational professionals in the health research and management sectors.

Inauguration of the academic year at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities
Description:
Playwright Sergi Belbel, alumni of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities of the UAB, will talk about creativity and study in a conversation with Jordi Jané, coordinator of the Master's Degree in Theatre Studies, entitled "Study or be studied by others". The event will take place on 23 October at 11:30 a.m. in the UAB Auditorium. The dialogue will take place within the institutional inauguration of the 2025/26 academic year of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, within the framework of which, the faculty's Ad studia humanitatis fovenda awards will be presented to the Institut del Teatre (in the institution category) and to Poire Vallvé (in the personal category) for their work in collaboration with the UAB in disseminating the values of the humanities. The event will feature institutional speeches by UAB Rector Javier Lafuente and Faculty Dean Margarita Freixas.

The digitisation of society and the case of voting online
Description:
The UAB's ISOR (Research into the Sociology of Religion) research group organises a seminar on the digitasation of society and trust when voting online, entitled “La digitalització de la societat i la renovació en les formes de creació de confiança i desconfiança: el cas del vot per internet”. The seminar will focus on the impact of digitisation on social mechanisms of trust and mistrust. The seminar will include a conference by David Dueñas-Cid from Kozminski University.

Workshop on disinformation and critical thinking at the Communications Library and General Newspaper Archives
Description:
The UAB Communications Library and General Newspaper Archives will be holding on 28 October, during Global Media and Information Literacy Week, a workshop on "Disinformation and Critical Thinking. Tools to Navigate News and Fake Science". The session will focus on the detection and analysis of disinformation, particularly that in the scientific field, and foster critical thinking when consuming daily contents. The workshop will be led by librarians specialising in information literacy, who took part in the European project Media and Information Literacy Connections (MIL CC). Places are limited and prior registration is necessary.

Fifth Marcela de Juan Chinese Translation Prize goes to Javier Altayó for his translation of "To Hold Up The Sky"
Description:
The UAB Faculty of Translation and Interpreting and the TXICC research group jointly organise the awards ceremony of the fifth edition of the Chinese-Spanish/Catalan Translation Award "Marcela de Juan". The award will be given to Javier Altayó for his translation from Chinese into Spanish of Sostener el cielo (To Hold Up The Sky) by Liu Cixin. The awards ceremony will take place on 28 October at the Ana María Moix Library in Fort Pienc, Barcelona.
